If I Started My Own Wrestling Organization: Professional League Of Wrestling

As a fantasy writer and fan who grew up watching wrestling, I’ve always wondered about writing for a wrestling company (or working backstage in some creative capacity). Sure for a year or two when I got out of the Army, I considered being a wrestler but I never had that level of athleticism that I’d want nor the desire to spend a lot of time in the gym. I did however start to wonder about working for a wrestling company in some capacity…or maybe starting my own organization.

I always said though that if I or someone else wanted to start a company, you are crazy to want to compete with WWE or any established wrestling organization. You should want to bring something different to the table and be unique. I’ve had a couple ideas over the years and having no experience in the business, I have no idea if any of these concepts would work but I find the ideas fascinating.

One such idea I had was the Professional League Of Wrestling (P.L.O.W.). The concept was much like professional sports leagues with teams based in various cities and possibly even local and national sponsors. Each match would result in points and at the end of the card, you had a winner, a loser and individual points to help determine an MVP/post season awards.

At some point, the regular season would end and playoffs begin with the championship matchup around the Christmas/Hanukkah season. There would also be a 2-3 month off season featuring drafts, “combine style” tryouts and workouts and features to get to know the talent. You can also hire, fire, trade and adjust rosters as needed during the season and offseason with a commissioner or president type position overlooking the league.

Each team would contain a wrestling legend (or at least former wrestler) as it’s owner and one as its coach, at least one male and one female heavyweight division, one male and one female light heavyweight division, as well as one male and one female tag team division (though that obviously depends on available talent). Much like amateur wrestling meets, each show will feature one head to head matchup of each division  to earn points for their team (maybe an occasional open meet format as well) featuring home games, away games and some neutral sites so fans can see wrestlers from other teams occasionally as well.

Thank you for reading part one of the PLOW (Professional League Of Wrestling). In part two of this series, I’ll go into more detail about how I might set it up and more details how it might look in future posts. If you read this, let me know what you think. Would this be something if it aired on some platform that you might at least try?

And I’ll close part one with a clip from an independent show. I’d like to use this platform also to help others so here is one I hope you’ll like.
